Wanting to experiment with a shorter canoe design concept, Puakea Designs released the Kahele OC1 in late 2017. While this concept made a lot of sense to us, it took a little while for it to catch on. Wanting to push this concept further, we released the Volare OC1 in 2020 and then pushed it even more with less volume with the Cantare OC1 in late 2021. With the success of these designs we felt ready to take this concept to other boat designs.

This two-person canoe, based off the successful features of the Volare and Cantare, blends the quick, maneuverable, and lightweight design of the Cantare with the high-end speed and carry of the Volare. The Ballare has been designed for variable weighted paddlers, specifically with the heavier paddler in the back. Evolving from our canoe designs, the new ama was designed to minimize wetted surface area no matter the conditions. Being one of the shorter OC2 designs on the market, the Ballare measures at 23 feet (7 meters), making it easy to handle off the water and store.
